700r4 problems

Postby 91tpiz28 on Sat Feb 06, 2010 12:45 pm

I have a 91 z28 with a newly built 383 carbed about 400miles on it. Last year I had my transmission rebuilt because it was slipping, so we had a shift kit put in and a 2000 stall. But the transmisson is still slipping, when I was driving my car the other day and opened it up a little it would jump to 5000rpms not pulling and not shift well at all. and even shifting it manualy it would slip a lot going from first to second. Are the internels messed up where its time for a new transmission? If so should I stick with a 700r4 or get a turbo 350 or 400?

It does need a transmission, as far as whether you should stick with a 700 or go to a th350 or th400 is more of a personal question how do you drive the car, if you are street driven with a couple track passes a year, i would stay 700, if you live at the track, and only drive it a few miles on the street i would go th350 or th400

Ken pretty much summed up my thoughts. However, I would definitely put a 700R4 back in it (either way). It doesn't sound like you're a hardcore drag racer.

It really just needs to be able to handle the 383 which should have around 400 horses and the track every once in a while.

700R4 rebuilt from a reputable shop should be fine. You'll retain OD for daily driving (or weekend cruising). Not to mention, you can keep your current torque converter (however, you'll probably want a different converter behind the 383).

Basicly my second gear is gone.. I had a 2000 torque converter put on the last time i had it rebuilt so it only has about 9000 miles on it.
